OUR GUITAR INSPECTION PROCESS
At O'Donnell's Guitars, we believe that buying a quality instrument should come with complete transparency and peace of mind.
Every guitar is carefully inspected, cleaned and professionally set up before sale. Our vintage instruments also undergo additional checks to assess their originality, condition and authenticity, with the findings recorded in a detailed inspection report.
Our aim is simple: to ensure you know exactly what you're buying and that your guitar arrives ready to play.
WHAT WE INSPECT
UV Inspection & Structural Integrity
We examine the guitar under ultraviolet light to help identify evidence of previous repairs, refinishing, cracks or breaks that may not be immediately visible under normal lighting.
Serial Numbers & Dating
We examine serial numbers, manufacturing features and available documentation to assess the guitar's production date and model authenticity.
Potentiometer & Pickup Dating
Where accessible, we inspect potentiometer codes and pickup markings to establish component dates and assess whether they are consistent with the guitar's period of manufacture.
Truss Rod & Neck Condition
We check that the truss rod functions correctly and measure neck relief to assess the condition and adjustability of the neck.
Action, Intonation & Playability
We measure and adjust string action, check intonation and assess overall playability. Guitars are professionally set up and fitted with fresh strings before sale.
Cleaning & Fretboard Care
Each guitar is carefully cleaned, with the fretboard treated where appropriate for its construction and finish.
YOUR GUITAR INSPECTION REPORT
Our vintage guitars are supplied with an O'Donnell's Guitars Inspection Report documenting the findings of our examination.
The report records relevant details including the instrument's identification, UV inspection findings, component dating where accessible, truss rod operation, neck relief, string action and setup checks.
Any significant issues, modifications or evidence of previous repairs identified during inspection are documented, helping you make an informed purchase.
